Nick Telles is a New Mexican who spent his younger years playing in the fields around Hobbs,(southeastern NM), and his teenage years skating the ditches of Las Cruces(southern NM). He has lived in Haines, AK, where he fell in love with powder, snowboarding, and Haidi Wimbush, as well as Anchorage AK, so he knows what winter is like. Good thing! He is the technical and design side of the blog, but we hope that he will do some writing as well.
Haidi Telles is a Canadian girl who moved from Winnipeg, Manitoba to British Columbia with her family when she was six. She lived at Graham River Farm for three years when it was a Christian community, then moved to the Yukon Territories where her family built a house on the marge of Lake Laberge. She met Nick in Haines, AK, when she was 20 and has lived in the US ever since.
Lyra Telles was born in Taos, NM in 2003. She always wants to wear her prettiest dress, and it is hard work convincing her that pants are a better choice for some things. She shares her mother’s love of nature, and is very excited about the coming winter.
Marley Telles was born in Taos, NM in 2005. He is bright-eyed, irrespressible, incorrigible, and generally like his dad. His favorite toys are his cars, to which he talks, sings, and carries with him everywhere.
Littlest One will be born in March, 2009, and it is yet to be seen what bend its personality will take.
Zia is our sun-worshipping dog whom we adopted from a place south of Albuquerque several years ago. She is a Sharpei mix-desert dog who did not know what a squirrel was until her first trip to Canada last summer. She now chases squirrels with the best of them. She is currently working on developing a winter coat.
The last five years, we have lived in the small town of White Rock, NM, a beautiful high desert area northwest of Santa Fe up in the mountains. Last summer, on a road trip to visit Haidi’s family in Smithers, British Columbia, we stopped in at Graham River Farm and spent three weeks with Dave and Sue Smith, and their four children. They invited us to move up and after taking a year to think it over, we decided to move. We arrived at Graham September 1st, just in time to prepare for winter.

What a wonderfully pleasant surprise!
Talk about getting away from it all. Wow. I’m jealous — just from the pictures. But where are you?! Upper BC where? Why?? How long?? Geeze!! Can’t find Graham River with Google Maps exactly. Looks like you’re west somewhat of Fort St John. Is that correct?
Hey guys- We are so happy to hear from you. We had a sad moment last week- Olivia wanted me to call you guys to come over; I had to remind her that you guys had moved. She was so upset, she said that she even missed Marley. We all miss all of you. You are a joy to be around- the new people you meet up there are so lucky! So, Haidi you are an incredible writer. I look forward to many more installments. All our love, God bless- Daisy
Daisy, there is no one around to chase Marley, and I think he misses that. I’m glad we have a some photos of you, and the memories of that wonderful party at your house. As soon as I have a wall ready, I’m hanging my NM map! Love and miss you,
Haidi
Hey, you guys look great! I really want to come for a visit, but that’s not likely for a while at least. So you’re having a little Canadian. Good for you! We need more of those!
Hope Zia is coming along with that coat. If not, Miranda can probably hook her up with some kind of fancy dog outfit.
Winter looks fun up at GRF…….Maybe because of my size 14 shoes I,ve shyed away from any form of skiing. So having feet as large as a snowshoe I,ve chosen to walk the frozen land we call Canada……any way you traverse it….its a fine place to live. Keep the fotos comin………we love the updates…..feels like we are there spending winter with you all……..you make it look so great…..we may spend a winter at GRF yet! DnD
Haidi, Nick, Lyra, Marley and Zia – it is so wonderful to be able to read about your life, and see the beauty of where it unfolds.
Thank you for posting your blog, and allowing me to read it and in turn feel closer to a part of my family I didn’t get to know well enough growing up.
